Carl Buehl has been a medium and intuitive since childhood. At the time, he simply had no idea that what he was experiencing had a name. What he believed was an “imaginary friend” named Charley turned out to be the earliest sign of the work he would eventually step into. Charley is still the primary guide he works with today.

His formal development began in the early 1990s. He spent years doing group readings in online forums, refining his accuracy and keeping detailed records. Carl eventually submitted those transcripts to Dr. Gary Schwartz at the University of Arizona for scientific testing. Dr. Schwartz later wrote:

People use all kinds of titles, but here is the simplest way to understand it. Intuitives or psychics tune into the energy of a person or object to sense elements of their past, present, or possible future. Mediums do that too, but they go a step further by connecting with spirit energy that exists outside of themselves. Mediumship is about making a connection with loved ones, guides, or soul energy in the non-physical world.
My work focuses on mediumship. The information I receive comes from spirit and from your soul’s energy. Spirit communicates with me through impressions, which come as clairvoyance (seeing), clairaudience (hearing), clairsentience (feeling), and claircognizance (knowing). I translate that into messages that make sense for you.
No, and in fact, I prefer that you do not tell me. Integrity matters deeply to me. Part of my job is to give you the information first. Your job is simply to answer yes, no, or I don’t know. Conversation is fine, but I want to keep the experience as clean and authentic as possible.
And just to be clear, I am not afraid of a “no.” It helps me refine the information so Spirit can get clearer with me. Also, it is very common for a sitter to say no several times, only to later realize that Spirit was giving information meant for someone else in the family. Sometimes Spirit uses the person in front of me to get a message to another relative who needs it. This happens more often than you might think.
I can set the intention to reach a specific person, but I cannot force or guarantee it. I don’t have a direct-dial. Connecting with Spirit is similar to being at a gathering. You may choose to talk with someone, and someone else may not feel like talking at all. Spirit is the same way. Most of the time the connections come easily, but on rare occasions a spirit may not want to step forward for reasons that are not always clear to us.
Yes. I prefer to record every session and send it to you afterwards. A lot of information can come through, and it is common for people to forget details once the session is over. Having the recording lets you revisit things with a clear mind and often brings extra clarity later.
If I have not made a clear, validated connection within the first 20 minutes, I will stop the reading, refund your payment, and recommend that you book with another medium. This is my rule of thumb and part of how I protect your time, your money, and my integrity.
I will sometimes receive insight about potential future events, but I am not a fortune teller. Predicting the future can unintentionally take away a person’s sense of choice, and I never want to disempower you. You have free will, and you can redirect your life at any time by shifting your thoughts and actions. Any future-based information I share should be seen as guidance, not a fixed outcome.
In my experience, spirits who come through are generally at peace. They may carry regrets or unfinished feelings, but they are not stuck or lost. It is usually the living who feel the weight of unresolved emotions. Spirit’s goal is to help you move forward with more peace and clarity.
